The Best-Laid Plans

For the curious and the confused:

Three years late, we're finally ready to go on our honeymoon. We think it will be worth the wait. For a long time we've been wanting to visit David's family in Israel and Hannah's family in Ireland--and, in between, bicycle from one country to the other.

Here's our plan. We'll spend a few weeks visiting the Hamm family in Israel, then make our way by boat to Turkey. From there, we'll somehow pedal through Bulgaria-Romania-Hungary. By then we should meet up with the bicycle tourist route along the Danube River, which we'll follow through Budapest-Vienna-Prague. Then, on to Amsterdam, a ferry across to the UK and through England, and another ferry to Ireland for a few more weeks of visiting.

If you're along our route, we'd love to have company for sections of the ride. Also, if you have a friend or relative with floor space and weak olfactory sense, please direct us their way! We'll be bringing sleeping bags and camping gear.

The saying goes, "If you really want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans." Well, what the heck. Here's a rough itinerary of our route. The plane ticket home means we shouldn't deviate too much from this schedule--if we fall behind, we'll take the bus or train to catch up.

Arrive in Tel Aviv: April 17
(in early May, somehow get to Turkey, possibly by boat or by bus)
Istanbul: May 20
Romania/Hungary border: June 5
Prague: June 15
(if we're ahead of schedule we'll go to Berlin, if we're behind schedule we'll take a train to catch up)
Amsterdam: June 21
London: June 27
Arrive in Ireland: July 3
(not sure the route through Ireland, though we'll probably start in Dublin and travel counterclockwise around southern Ireland)
Head home: July 25

As for the next few weeks, lots of preparation! We're hoping to post photos and reports from the road, so check back for updates. And if you have any comments or suggestions, we'd love to hear them.

Shalom,
Slainte,
David & Hannah
